Responding to the report, Atiku in a statement on his verified X handle on Monday, described the move as “covert”, “secretive”, and portending “grave’ implications for the integrity of the country’s federalism. On July 19,  FCCPC imposed a fine  of $220 million on Meta, the parent company of WhatsApp, Facebook, and Instagram, for multiple data privacy violations. A spokesperson at WhatsApp told TheCable that the company relies on limited data to run its service and keep users safe, and it would be impossible to provide WhatsApp in Nigeria or globally, without Meta’s infrastructure given the FCCPC’s demands. “This order contains multiple inaccuracies and misrepresents how WhatsApp works and we are urgently appealing the order to avoid any impact to users,” a WhatsApp spokesperson said. However, the commission said its  actions stem from justifiable wor...

His words: “Let us avoid anything that will bring mayhem within our communities. We have seen the level of destruction that was carried out just on Thursday. So you can imagine if this continues for so long. “What we saw at the beginning, was some semblance of a very peaceful demonstration, but which was quickly taken over by a bunch of criminals that didn’t mean well. “And if you remember, we had warned that there were individuals that were ready to cause mayhem once this starts. And so I want to appeal to Nigerians to understand that the federal government is doing the best it can for the country. “The armed forces and the entire security agencies will not stand by and allow that ...
